School!

It's a strange and exciting day in our house today. The first day of school! Owen started Kindergarten today and Ella started Pre-K. So far... so good... I was a little worried about getting everyone up and ready this morning, but it went relatively smoothly. Owen kept himself up pretty late (11ish?) so he was tired, but I had told him last night he could do his Lego's for a few minutes before school, so that got him out of bed pretty easily. The first words out of his mouth when I woke him up were "can I do my Lego's?" :) Ella went to bed pretty early (relatively speaking - 9:30ish) but was still pretty hard to wake up. She eventually roused around enough to eat some cereal and then she was good to go. Being the girly girl she is, she made a bit of a scene with clothes. She didn't like the shorts I picked out because they were "not good" when she sat down on the floor in them. I think they were a little tight when she was sitting. So we changed shorts into a cute skirt which she claimed did not match her shirt (though it matched just fine...), so then we had to change shirts too. (She wasn't taking no for an answer.) Then we went to put shoes on, but she didn't want to wear her new tennis shoes that I had picked out, she wanted to wear her pink tennis shoes that matched her clothes... the others matched fine too... but not according to her. The next 15 years are gonna be just great.... I can't wait for the middle school and high school fashion trends. oy... Owen wasn't much of a fight. He didn't want to leave his Lego's but we got him out the door. We got them to school and settled in their classrooms where all of the other parents were still huddled around. :)

I dropped off Owen first in Mrs. K's class and we found his cubby and his table and he sat down to play with Play Doh. I had to run Ella over to her class, so I did that, found her table and cubby and got her settled in with Mrs. Brindle and ran back over to Owen so I could snap some pictures and give him a hug and kiss. He was too interested in showing the teaching assistant his Play Doh creations to pay much attention to me, but I managed a hug and kiss out of him and a little good bye. :) Then we went back over to Ella to hug her and help her potty before leaving her. She had just finished a drawing that she was giving to Mrs. Brindle. We said our goodbyes and gave hugs and went on our merry way. Both kids were happy as can be.

We then had to head down to the cafeteria to put some money on the kids' accounts so they can eat lunch this week. We decided we'd rather they learn how that whole process works while everyone else is learning rather than figuring it out one day down the road when we forget to pack a lunch. Once they get through a few days, hopefully we'll be able to send them with a healthy lunch. We also made a quick stop by the PTA room on our way out. They were having "Sniffles and Snacks" for the Kindergarten parents. It was a cute idea. We missed the talk with the school counselor, but got a donut and some juice.

We took Anna to the sitter and I'm working from home today and it's so weird to be here in such silence. I keep expecting Anna to cry from her bed or something. I think today is the first time I've been home without Anna since she was born. I've been away from her other places, but not at home... it's weird! One would think this would mean I could get lots of work done... but instead, I keep reminiscing on what a big day this is for our family. Everything is different from here on out and it makes me realize how big my babies are getting.
