Well, Saturday was the big day! My little baby boy had his big #5 birthday party with his friends, a huge water slide bounce house, water balloons and alien cupcakes. :) This year was a Star Wars theme. We had a little trouble deciding between Mario Bros and Star Wars, but I made him pick something so I could order all the supplies and goodies before Anna arrived. Otherwise, I would have been an even worse party planner than I ended up being. I got invitations out to friends, but didnt even really try to send them to family (sorry if that made me miss telling any of you!). A couple of Owen's old friends from school got to come, so that was awesome. He hadn't seen them since before Thanksgiving last year, so I know he missed seeing them. His new friend from soccer who happens to live in the neighborhood also came and got to bring a friend with him, so we had a good crowd, since we also had the family there.
He got all kinds of goodies: a couple of big Star Wars Lego sets, a punching bag and corresponding gloves, a Bubble Storm toy (bubble gun type of thingy), some new swim shorts and other clothes, 2 new DS games and a new Wii game. Quite a tally for a 5-year-old!! :)
After the party, the fun and games continued.... okay, so not so much fun and no games, but some drama at least... Ella took a little nap there at the end and when she woke up had an earache.... that's when I remembered we are supposed to put an earplug in her left ear ANY time she's in the water... we learned earlier this year at her ENT follow-up that she has a hole left in her ear drum where she had her tube, so water can get behind her ear drum. This was our first summer water adventure and we just completely forgot! I felt horrible. So we gave her some Tylenol and then I ran her over to the 24-hour ER place and got some antibiotics and it's been great since then, so thank goodness we caught it early before she was in much pain.
But the fun didn't stop there... We went to dinner with Ashli at Los Charros (yum!) really late. I suddenly was freezing cold in the restaurant. No one else was cold, so I thought it was just cuz I had been in the sun all day, hadn't eaten much of anything all day and my body was just being crazy. I had also skipped one of Anna's feedings during the day when she had a bottle and hadn't pumped yet so my boobs were killing me. I couldn't wait to get home, put on some warm PJs and pump and then finally sleep. By the time we got home, I had a horrible headache. I pumped and fed Anna but my right boob was still hurting pretty bad. I assumed it was just sore cuz I had waited so long, so didn't think much about it and went to bed absolutely freezing.... winter PJs and covers barely kept the chills away. When I woke up in the morning, sore boob, still freezing and head pounding, I started thinking perhaps something else was going on. Tylenol helped a little with the fever, but did absolutely nothing for the headache, so I just spent most of the day trying to sleep off the headache to no avail. In the late afternoon, I was so cold, I decided I better take my temperature which was 102.6! That was well past my "call the doctor" limit, so I called them and they confirmed it sounded like I had mastitis and called me some antibiotics and pain meds for my head. The fever started to wane on Monday afternoon and Tuesday I felt quite a bit better with a lingering headache. Today (wed) I finally feel back to normal, which is good since I still had all the birthday cleanup to do! Definitely happy to be back though. Thank you to my sweet hubby for keeping things running while I was incapacitated. Without him, I think the kids would have starved or would have had to fend for themselves. :)
But all that said, we had an awesome birthday party on Saturday and are back to normal operations today. :) Now we just gotta get in gear for my going back to work in a week and a half. Oh boy! :)
